Denrele Edun: Fashionista of the week, shoe freak!

Denrele Edun can go from crazy and eccentric to a more subtle look (Have you seen him in T.I Nathan collection?) This media personality always leaves tongues wagging whenever he steps on the red carpet.  How many can rock a pair of leather pants underneath a dress and a pair of gold boots? You got it right, one man; Denrele Edun.

Denrele is one man who enjoys a huge fan base and therefore it comes as no surprise that he has his own share of negative publicity with some always bashing him for his choice of outfits including putting him on worst dressed list. Oh well.

His haters are always on social media doing the bashing. And you know what he does with those posts? He screenshots them and repost them on his IG and simply makes fun of them with statements like “I need new haters, the old ones are starting to like me and the new ones are boring”

Talk about thick skin! One of his followers posted, “It takes serious self-esteem, contentment and confidence to take the shit that Denrele takes daily from people” And I couldn’t agree more.

Then there are those who describe his style as simply “liberal” and loving his expression of punk and fun style, and love for very very very high shoes.

Denrele is a shoe freak! And he takes it as high as he can. I am talking about 21 inches high custom made shoes. You read it right. For someone who claims to love high heels, in this case, I take the back seat because I don’t come close.

One thing about this Nigerian TV presenter and Entertainment personality is that he is good at what he does. He is an excellent entertainer with more than about twenty awards under his belt such as The Best TV Personality at the NEAs in NewYork 2011,Dynamix Award for Best Youth TV Personality 2006/2007/2008, The Future Award for Best Producer 2007, among others. He also boasts over 40 nominations in his career so far. He also hosted the movie premier of Hoodrush

Denrele got his first modeling job at the age of 5 in Germany. He was first seen on Nigerian television when he starred Kiddievision 101 at just the age of 11.

He has built a name and a reputation for himself and that means that as a presenter, he has earned his respect in the entertainment industry. But that also means that Denrele can ask questions which no other presenter can ask on the red carpet. Questions such “Are you wearing underwear?”

He has interviewed international celebs like AkonBeyoncé KnowlesTyler PerryLil’ KimSnoop DoggCuba GoodingAmerie, Lloyd among others.

His hair also always stands out and he can do any length and any color you can imagine.

But Denrele has not always been this wild, bold and carefree. In his interview with ModernGhana he revealed about his previous insecurities.

“My hair would be suppressed. Also I would wear baggy jeans and shirts because I was little worried about how skinny I was. I felt I look unhealthy and I had a little insecurity about how I looked.”

From his choice of outfit to his hairdo and his 10 inches heels and platform shoes, many would assume he does all these for attention. But during the same interview he made the record straight.

“I am just expressing my individuality… I just want to be me. Some people think I dress like this to attract attention, but I have always had attention from childhood”.

He has been the front man for various fashion labels and brands such as the Sammies Couture , fresh by Dotun, Agoro Jibola  , T.I Nathan among others. He recently covered The Guardian Nigeria.

So how does Denrele describe himself? “Fun loving, unpredictable, wild, and as some would say, humble.”
