A close friend of mine likes to use the phrase “simplicity is the ultimate sophistication” and for sure I couldn’t agree more.
So that gave me the inspiration. I decided why not start off my personal style segment with simplicity.
Da Vinci probably used the phrase to refer to his work, but to the fashion world he gave us a phrase to stress the fact that less is more.
“If something simple can serve the purpose of something that is complex, then the simple is more sophisticated. If something cannot be further simplified, then that is ultimate sophistication.”
Sophistication implies a sense of style, cultivated beauty and refinement, and this can be achieved without too much or too complex look. You don’t have to go out of your way.
When you get ready and you look at yourself in the mirror and feel that something is bit much, trust me that’s your inner goddess. Chances are, it is a bit too much!
Whether it is the make up be it lipstick, or eye shadow, or you just got your lashes fixed and you feel they are all over your face, chuck it! whether it is an extra outfit you added to your style coz it felt right but now staring at the mirror you are not digging the look, honey just get it off.
Whwther you really feel like rocking heels tonight, but your outfit says submit to the ground ( by wearing flats) do it, style is what you make it, but more of how you feel.
At the end of the day its about being comfortable. Its about being stylish but not at the expense of your own comfort and confidence. Coz once you feel it aint right but you choose to go with it, You will not enjoy whatever occasion, outing or whichever function you are heading over for.
I Had my hair both up and down. I prefer it up, it simple and makes the look more polished. Let me get your thoughts on that, hair up clipped or down?
I did my own simple make up, Got this stylish top from a vendor in town. One thing I liked about the top is the leaf design on the arms. I love details in an outfit, and for people like me sometimes that can work for or against us.
I will tell you why; so you buy an outfit because you got attracted by that one specific detail on it, and it blinds you to the fact you don’t notice anything else about the outfit. You later realize you should have looked at other aspects too.
Lucky for me, I have done the mistake enough times to learn from it.
The maxi African print was designed and made by Lucia k. fashions. She was nominated for the Pwani Fashion Awards and although she didn’t win, I couldn’t be more proud of her.
The photographer, I will talk about him on my next post. I found him very professional and easy going. We met at a friends event and when I moved there was no doubt whom I wanted to work with.
