Vlisco 170 years celebration, tribute to the women of Africa

Vlisco goes a long waay. From 1846 the brand now celebrates 170 years! would you believe that!


In celebration of its 170th anniversary the brand pays tribute to the women of Africa. The women who share with the brand the love for genuine Wax Hollandais. Who made it part of their heritage.

VLISCO is Part of the Vlisco Group which Consists of four fashion textile brands that established the World of African Print: Vlisco, Woodin, Uniwax and Gtp. Vlisco is The Premium Brand in the Portfolio.

The brand is known for its colour obsession, making their own Unique Colours in-House to ensure the deepest, most vibrant colours that are colour fast too.

 We are thankful to all the women who cherish and adore our fabrics. The women who started the tradition of giving our textiles as presents during the circle of life. The passionate traders who created original textiles with us that suit the African taste. They even enriched our designs by giving them meaningful titles and stories.

We embrace the generations of African women who have expressed their originality, pride and class by wearing our fabrics. Creating unique fashion styles, melting their creative minds with famous Vlisco print designs.

In honour of all African women, the brand shares encouraging stories which tells of humility, perserverance, pride, elegance, grace and style filled with fulfilling dreams of 8 powerful ladies who are the faces of this 170 years campaign.

These are the faces of the campaign:


Aziable - VLISCO

Mrs Aziablé has been a Vlisco trader since 1980. She belongs to the 4th generation of Nana Benz, a group of successful female Vlisco traders in Togo and has her own boutique-gallery, Manatex, in Lomé.



Mrs N’CHO is a Top 3 Vlisco trader from the Ivory Coast. She’s independently been selling Vlisco since 1978 and she has her own shop in the Adjamé market.



Anita is a charismatic radio and TV personality who’s involved in several women empowerment charities in Accra. Her husband introduced her to Vlisco and she’s been an ambassador ever since.


Patricia VLISCO

Patricia is an ambitious entrepreneur and philanthropist who often wears Vlisco to her formal occasions. She represented D.R. Congo at the Young African Leaders Initiative from the Obama administration.


Angelique VLISCO

Angelique is a world famous singer and 3-time Grammy winner who wears lots of Vlisco during her performances. She’s originally from Benin but currently lives in New York.



Ejiro is an upcoming fashion designer based in Lagos. She loves mixing Vlisco with lots of different materials to make her glamorous creations.



Zainab is an entrepreneur from Abuja who started her own successful Vlisco business. She embroiders and embellishes Vlisco fabrics, making them even more special and precious.


Celestina VLISCO

Celestina is a Vlisco trader and CEO of her own textile company in Onitsha. She’s a member of the 36-inch trader group who sell Vlisco fabrics used by the Igbo people for a special kind of wrapper.
