Kenya Fashion Awards in its quest to promote regional fashion talent to a global market held its 5th annual gala and showcase this past weekend.
The KFA 2017 Winners were awarded, honored and celebrated for their outstanding performance and excellence in the fashion industry at the event which was held at Fairmont The Norfolk, Nairobi on Saturday 7th.
The award recognizes, nurtures, supports and promotes regional fashion talent to a global market through raising awareness of the importance of adaptation of local brands and highlighting Kenya and the African region as the next fashion destination.
Kenya Fashion Awards partnered with luxury Champagne House Moët & Chandon, in an event which brought together stakeholders to celebrate the incredible performance by the upcoming and established industry professionals.
Mr. Alexandre Helaine, Market Manager Moët Hennessy Eastern Africa mentioned that;
“Celebrating your accomplishments with moments of success and glamour, with generosity and grandeur is our essential mission as Moët & Chandon. Moët & Chandon is pleased to partner with Kenya Fashion Awards on their 5th Anniversary, to promote and celebrate the great talent in East Africa.”
The annual celebration of fashion excellence shone a spotlight on exceptional individuals and brands within the East African region that have made incredible contributions to the global fashion industry.
Established category winners were voted on by the public while the Upcoming and Student category winners were voted on by a judging panel, made of key industry figures from the fashion industry.
“The East African region is globally recognized for its creative talent and businesses and it’s therefore important that we celebrate fashion excellence as well as those who play an important part in the growth of our industry. Kenya Fashion Awards besides recognizing a wide scope of outstanding contributions and talent of current industry leaders is committed to developing excellence and growth in a sector that is a significant contributor to the Kenyan economy.” said Mr. Atman Ngau, Co-Director of Kenya Fashion Awards.
Kenya Fashion Awards also aims to secure a sustainable lifeline and the future generation of fashion talent for the development of this economic sector through hosting industry workshops and mentorship programmes.
In that regard, Canon Central and North Africa (CCNA) has partnered with Kenya Fashion Awards and hosted two fashion photography workshops for students as well as for up-coming and established photographers within the industry.
Roman Troedhandl, Managing Director of CCNA, said:
“It is our privilege to collaborate with Kenya Fashion Awards for the 2nd consecutive year, which celebrates African talent in the fashion industry, especially the young and promising models and professionals. It provides them an opportunity to be recognized and take part in global events in addition to setting new benchmarks for the fashion industry to compete internationally. These workshops will help to mentor upcoming talent and nurture their skills, which underlines our Miraisha Sustainability programme aimed at building the capacity and skills of people in the African countries in which we operate.’
The winning student and upcoming photographers were selected from the workshop and awarded at the Awards Gala Ceremony alongside other winners.
